New regulation for licence procedures

Motorists who need to either renew their driver’s licences or vehicle registration will have to provide personal details such as proof of residence before the transaction can be completed since the new regulation from the National Road Traffic Regulations (NRTR) came into effect on 1 November.
Department of Transport, Safety, Security and Liaison, Spokesperson on Transport, Kagiso Mootane said that an amendment had been made to the national road traffic regulations. “Motorists will now have to verify their residential and postal address, identity number and full names if they wish to obtain any document, register a vehicle, licence a vehicle or make use of any service on the National Traffic Information System (NaTis),” Mootane said.
The amendment as published in the Government Gazette states that motorists can submit their full names by means of an identity document, business registration number or any form of acceptable identification. Any utility account not older than three months can be submitted as proof of postal and residential address.
The amendment further states that where the NaTis user is not the person in whose name the utility account is issued, the person in whose name the utility account is issued must make an affidavit or affirmation must be accompanied by the utility account of the person making the affidavit.
A NaTis user who resides in an informal settlement or a rural area must submit a letter with an official date stamp not older than three months from the ward councillor or local tribal authority confirming the postal and residential address of the NaTis user or an affidavit confirming proof of residential address, according to the amendment.
