Hot topics on ANC council agenda

Dealing with the ills of careerism, patronage, factionalism and politics of money plaguing the African National Congress (ANC) resorted under topics for debate when party delegates from across the province met during a one-day Special Provincial General Council (PGC) at Protea Hotel Ranch Resort on Monday to deliberate issues contained in discussion documents of the National General Council (NGC) scheduled to start in Gauteng tomorrow (Friday).
The NGC is seen as platform for discussion of the mid-term review of resolutions taken at the 2012 Mangaung Conference. In a media release afterwards ANC Provincial Secretary Nocks Seabi stated that Limpopo delegates acknowledged that the majority of the 53rd Conference resolutions remained relevant and adequate, however there had been serious limitations with implementation thereof. The Special PGC emphasised the need to increase the pace of implementing the resolutions and programme of action adopted, he stressed.
The documents are brought together in a 218-page edition of which the nine chapters are dedicated to the balance of forces, social transformation, economic transformation, education, health, science and technology, legislature and governance, communications and the battle of ideas, international relations, peace and stability and lastly rural development and land reform.
Seabi further stated that noting that the national democratic revolution (NDR) was in danger of failing unless the ANC remained decisive in addressing cumulative threats to the NDR which in the main were internal to the organisation, it was recommended that the ANC should deal decisively and consistently with the ills of careerism, patronage, factionalism and politics of money plaguing the organisation.
Among others Limpopo delegates reaffirmed the need for radical economic transformation as a major pillar towards building an inclusive and united South Africa, supported the resolution on a parliamentary process towards a media appeals tribunal and recommended that Limpopo be considered as priority province for digital migration. Lastly it resolved to re-affirm its support for the current ANC national leadership and in particular the top six positions.
