Baroka Football Club now lies in second position of the National First Division (NFD) after they beat Mbombela United 1-0 at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
The Ga-Mphahlele-based outfit boasts six points, two more than Black Leopards Football Club which is currently in third position. Baroka’s Thabiso Kutumela scored in the second half of the match to give his team a hard-fought victory.
Technical Manager for Baroka, Oupa Kgoadi attributed the team’s impressive run in the league to hard work and discipline. “We have assembled a good team of young players who are willing to learn and achieve more. They follow instructions and that makes our job as technical team easier,” Kgoadi said.
He singled out Kutumela as the surprise package in the team this season. “He is one of the leading goal scorers in the league. He did not do well last season because of injury but has managed to pick himself up and is scoring crucial goals for the team,” Kgoadi said.
Baroka’s next match will be against Vasco Da Gama at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on 12 September.
“They are a tough side but we are more than ready for them. We have set goals for ourselves and one of the key goals is to gain automatic promotion and for us to achieve that we have to win all the matches,” Kgoadi said.
Black Leopards played to a goalless draw against African Warriors at Charles Mopeli Stadium on Sunday.
