Mediclinic Limpopo Day Clinic, Mediclinic Southern Africa’s second day clinic focusing exclusively on same day surgery, opened its doors for business on Tuesday and admitted its first patient, Makgethwa Moitsi (3).
This new facility, also a first for the city, only concentrates on same day surgical procedures and facilitates streamlined, efficient as well as cost-effective patient treatment, without compromising on expert care.
Patients will undergo planned, non-emergency surgical procedures that will be admitted and discharged on the day of surgery. Examples of typical day surgery that will be accommodated in the new day clinic include ophthalmology cases, such as cataract surgery; ear, nose and throat surgery such as a tonsillectomy and facial and oral surgery, such as wisdom tooth extraction. Some urology patients will also be admitted for same day surgery.
The day clinic is located close to Mediclinic Limpopo on the corner of Jorissen and Plein streets and will predominantly serve people residing in Limpopo. “The urgent need was identified for a facility that could ease the pressure on existing infrastructure and ensure that both the community and our associated doctors benefit through the availability of more beds and theatres,” MC Botha, Mediclinic Limpopo’s Hospital General Manager commented. Patients are selected for planned procedures and the patient will therefore know the date of surgery well in advance. This allows the clinic to be well prepared to accommodate these patients. The Mediclinic Limpopo Day Clinic features three fully equipped theatres with specialised staff. While the focus is on day surgery only, the 26 bed clinic allows ample time for patients to recover before they are safely discharged. The clinic will not operate after hours, over weekends or on public holidays.
According to Botha, the services of the day clinic are based on the needs of the public. “Our focus on patient care will carry over to the day clinic where patients can expect the same quality care and expertise they are accustomed to from Mediclinic – in a streamlined environment. Time saving is primarily a result of processes that are tailor-made for same-day procedures. Coupled with the fact that services are offered in a friendly, non-threatening environment at a lower price, it can only ease the patient’s stress levels while focusing on recovery,” he explains.
The current directors of Mediclinic Limpopo Day Clinic are Andri Weyer, Bossie Bosman and Peter Muchandigona (medical practitioners) and additional directors will be elected after the allocation of shares has been finalised.
The official opening of the facility will be on 28 October.
