Stanford learners through to nationals of science competition

Six pupils from Stanford Lake College (SLC) took part in the annual Regional Tritech Science Fair held at Merensky High School last week. Tritech is about teaching pupils skills such as synthesising, analysing and creativity and spans across all aspects of science including technology, health, Mathematics, the environment, agriculture and more.
Rona McGaffin, Marketer at SLC, reported that the learners had worked tirelessly on planning and fine tuning their presentations. She added that participation in the competition had visibly enriched the learners in terms of confidence and enthusiasm for learning.
All six learners are through to the National round in September. Yazdaan Tayob (Are eco homes a sustainable solution to the energy crisis in South Africa?), Helene Werhahn (Reading with sound) and Lesedi Motumi (Bacteria Breech) all won gold awards while Kiara Davidson (Long life batteries), Jasmine Bokgakga (How safe is your microwave oven?) and Tanweer Ghood (Homemade thermos) all claimed silver. Lesedi’s project was announced Best Overall Project of the Day.
According to McGaffin the learners now look forward to a busy few months of preparation for the national round.
