Local funny-man uses comedy to spread hope

Johannes Jojo Manjoro Magongwa hopes to create an opening for youngsters in the culture to see opportunities in the media and remove them from the culture of gansterism and criminality.

POLOKWANE – Well-known for his viral Date my Family parody video, Johannes Jojo Manjoro Magongwa, says he hopes to create an opening for youngsters in the culture to see opportunities in the media and remove them from the culture of gansterism and criminality.

Jojo told BONUS that the aim of the video was to drive traffic to his music and that he used his sense of humour to gain followers. “What I do is more than just funny videos. Polokwane has a rich culture and it has its own street language where the ‘tsotsi taal’ is somehow aggressive, but sweet on the tongue,” he said.

He added that he wants the youth to see that if they use their culture in the right way, the city of Polokwane, which is now flooded with gangsterism and criminality, can once again be filled with peace and joy.

“I’m hoping that my influence will steer them in the right direction, because I’ve seen the benefits,” he said. The all-round entertainer says he is well recognised in the street now and that his influence is spreading like wildfire, especially in Johannesburg, where Twitter influencers continue to share his video. This, he says, has opened many doors for him and that he currently negotiating two movie roles.

He is currently working with Malcom X, a famous philanthropist, who will be giving away R10 000 to one of his lucky followers on Instagram. “People lose their minds every time I open my mouth. People across South Africa are so interested in Polokwane’s culture because the music and culture in Limpopo is so rich,” he said.

Jojo praised his production team; Tebogo Tlaka (videographer) and Sepitsi Shades Lekganyane (editor), for their professionalism and ambition to help entertain the world.

On the production of the videos I have two important people whom I work with; Tebogo Tlaka who is a videographer and Sepitsi Shades Lekganyane who is the main editor of all my content.

They are a great and professional team to work with. I enjoy working with people who are as ambitious as I am to entertain the world and give people what they want,” he said.

Aside from the entertainment world, Jojo has a degree in computer sciences, and he’s also a businessman who owns four companies that operate in four provinces, as well as several other small businesses.
