[TAKE NOTE] Section of Thabo Mbeki Drive in Mokopane closed due to fatal collision

The collision between two trucks happened at around 02:30 on Friday morning and the main road is still closed for clean-up.

MOKOPANE – A section of Thabo Mbeki Drive has been closed after a fatal collision between two trucks in the early hours of Friday morning.

The incident happened on the Geyser and Thabo Mbeki intersection at around 02:30 and one fatality was reported, Petro Jansen van Vuuren, a founder of Mokopane Accidents told Bosveld Review.

One driver sustained serious injuries and was certified dead on arrival at the hospital. The second driver sustained minor injuries, Van Vuuren said.

According to reports the one truck transporting soya beans was turning into Thabo Mbeki when it was hit by the second truck which was transporting cement. Both trucks lost their loads and as a result several intersections have been closed to allow the the scene to be cleared of debris. The affected streets are as follows:

Voor and Ruiter streets, JG Strydom Street, Totius Street and Hooge Street.

Traffic is being diverted and motorists who are travelling to Mookgophong are urged to use the alternative N1 road.
