‘Polokwane airport will soon be back to its former glory’

Transport and Community Safety MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya says most of the concerns listed in the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) findings have been attended to and that all services at the airport will open soon.

POLOKWANE- Gateway Authority Airport Limited (GAAL) is well on its way to reclaim its category 7 status after it was downgraded to category 2 in April.
The Department of Transport and Community Safety held a walk about at the airport on Wednesday to give members of the media an opportunity to see the developments that have been made on the 14 items, which were found to be non-compliant by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA).

MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya says the department had no option but to welcome the findings by the inspectors, which was painful but beneficial for the airport and the public in the long run.
“Of the issues raised, safety was predominant and operations had to be stopped in order to ensure compliance. We are glad to announce that most of the issues that were raised, have been attended to and we are hoping to open up soon.”

Lerule-Ramakhanya assured the public that the airport would be back to its former glory in no time.
