Seshego’s very own Timothy reports for (financial) duty

Timothy Rangongo (28) works as a financial business reporter at one of South Africa's leading investments and finance publications.

POLOKWANE – “Every day presents new challenges that I am excited to either tackle or report on.”

These are the words of Timothy Rangongo (28) who was born and raised in Seshego. He currently resides in Sandton where he works as a financial business reporter at one of South Africa’s leading investments and finance publications.

”I track, record, analyse and interpret business, economic and financial activities, and changes that take place, with a particular focus on South Africa,” he said.

Timothy went to Lotanang Primary School and matriculated from Hoërskool Noorderland in 2010 with a handful of distinctions and academic honours.

Timothy went on to study economics and law at Rhodes University in the Eastern Cape, where he graduated in 2016. He’s currently back at Rhodes for graduate school, studying towards a postgraduate degree in media management.

The global financial crisis between 2007 and 2008, when he was only 15 years old, inspired his profession.

“I did not quite comprehend the causes of this debacle, but I could clearly see the disastrous effects all around you. That is why I decided to work in a field where I can inform SA about our statistics,” he said.

Timothy started working at his current employer five years ago as an editorial intern.

“I appreciate being thrown in the deep end from the get-go,” he added.

Timothy began formulating relationships with business leaders, entrepreneurs and market experts to build a solid network. At the same time, he was enrolled for the Sanlam Summer School for financial reporters, where he obtained a certificate in investigative financial journalism.

Timothy admits that there is no place like home. “Every time I return to Polokwane, I get all warm and fuzzy inside. This place will always be the place where it all began. It is a place that shall forever hold a special place in my heart.”

He added that as much as he feels fulfilled with his life and career, the journey continues. “My dreams have no pinnacle or end point. I chase after and live it daily instead,” he concluded.
