Eskom warns residents to reduce electricity usage as loadshedding looms
The power utility says the probability of loadshedding tonight remains high.
Eskom has warned the public to reduce their usage of electricity.Â
“While no loadshedding is anticipated at this point, the power system is under severe pressure due to a shortage of generation capacity and loadshedding can be implemented at short notice,” said the entity.
They have cited the breakdown in generation units and delays in others returning to services as the main reason behind the current supply constraints.

According to Eskom breakdowns are currently totaling 14 857MW of capacity, while another 2 200MW is unavailable due to planned maintenance.
“Eskom could be forced to implement Stage 1, or if necessary, Stage 2 loadshedding at short notice should any further breakdowns occur. This will most likely be between 17:00 and 22:00 this evening,” they explained.
