Five killed in collision on R40 outside Hoedspruit

The Transport Department cites reckless driving as a possible cause for the incident.

LIMPOPO – Two men and three women have died following a collision on the R40 outside Hoedspruit in the early hours of Sunday.

According to a statement by the department’s Media Liaison Officer, Mike Maringa, the driver of a sedan lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and hit a tree.

“Four people were certified dead on the scene and one woman was rushed to Tintswalo Hospital. She unfortunately died upon arrival. Preliminary investigations reveal reckless driving as a possible cause of the accident,” Maringa explained.
 
The Transport MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, has sent messages of condolences to the families of the victims.

She called on motorists to adhere to traffic rules, as she is worried that most of the fatal accidents recorded in the province are due to reckless driving.
