[VIDEO] Limpopo Premier registers for Covid-19 vaccine, encourages others to follow suit

Premier Stan Mathabatha earlier today registered himself on the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) at his residence at Tooseng Village, Lebowakgomo.

POLOKWANE – Limpopo Premier, Stan Mathabatha encouraged fellow citizens older than 60, to register for the Covid-19 vaccination.

“Through this, I will not only protect myself but also my family and those around me. It is important that we all register in order to receive the vaccine,” he said during a Facebook live video.

Mathabatha urged people with access to internet services to assist their elders who do not have access.

“In appreciating the rurality of our province, I have instructed the MEC for Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, to come up with ways and strategies which will ensure easy access to registration for all our citizens who are 60 and above, regardless of their location or material conditions. The MEC has promised me that in the coming weeks, her department will announce facilities which will serve as registration sites for those who cannot register themselves,” he added.

Mathabatha said this will be the second way of increasing access to registration for the current phase.

“We appreciate the fact that due to the vastness of our province and the geographical spread of our facilities, there are community members who might still be living far from a health facility and some are also frail, more so because we are talking about senior citizens. We will then launch a third way of increasing registration where our community healthcare workers will go door-to-door to register those who are unable to access the two mentioned ways for one reason or the other,” he explained.

He said healthcare workers are currently being trained to undertake this “mammoth but noble duty”.

Ramathuba was also in attendance and also urged residents to register for the vaccine.

The premier proceeded to fill in his details on the system and explained the eight steps of registration to the viewers.

One of the following three documents are needed to register;

  • Valid South African ID number,
  • or valid Passport number,
  • or valid Refugee number.

A few other citizens, among them a 92-year-old retired midwife, were registered during the proceedings.
