Chef Isaac serves his community well

POLOKWANE – Student chef at Capricorn Tvet College, Isaac Modiba, says people deserve to be treated with respect, regardless of their backgrounds. The Ga-Mamabolo resident is the founder of Lenna Ke Motho (I am also human, in Sepedi), a non-profit organisation (NPO) through which he hopes to help the needy, as well as motivate and inspire the youth to lend a helping hand where they can. Apart from the NPO, Isaac is the proud owner of Isaac’s Food and Catering, which he launched after gaining the necessary experience and knowledge by working in local hotels and restaurants.

His catering business supports Lenna Ke Motho, as he uses the profit from his business to buy food and other necessities to donate to the needy.

“While walking through my community one day, I realised that most people struggle with meeting basic needs like putting food on the table and that really broke my heart. I teamed up with two friends, Peter Letsoalo from Ga-Mamabolo and Ledile Teffo from Ga-Mashashane to register my NPO,” he said.

Modiba enjoyed being in the kitchen more than playing in the streets growing up and added that he grew more passionate about food after matriculating and enrolled in a hospitality course in 2017.

He told BONUS that he was highly motivated by the way local chefs, Chris Sebola and Ivan Molekwa presented their food. “I loved the way they play around in the kitchen. I told myself that I also want to learn how to present my food, because eating starts with the eyes. As service providers, we need to ensure that we deliver great service to keep clients happy. If we lack in this regard, we may fail to grow our businesses,” he concluded.
