LIMPOPO – Working in radio has always been the dream of Phalaphala FM’s latest recruit, Michael Mabungana Mulelu, also known as ‘Pastor Holy Mike’.

He was born and brought up in Ha-Masia Vyeboom village in the Vuwani area and matriculated at Tshinavhe Secondary School.

After school he went to Vista University to studay a BA degree.

He also attended the Seeds Revival Institute of Ministries and His People Bible School, where he obtained a diploma in ministry.

He was at Energy FM from 2013 until the end of March this year, whereafter he joined the Phalaphala FM team as presenter for their gospel show, Gondo Vhugala.

The show is aired on Sundays from 07:00 to 10:00 and is produced by Thendo Rambiyana.

“I’m thankful for Energy FM; they have made me who I am today. I’m also happy to have joined Phalaphala FM,” said Pastor Mike.

“I have learnt a lot about working in radio. It was always my childhood dream. When you are on air, you feel as if you’re in a certain realm. I knew that one day I would be behind the mic at a big radio station like Phalaphala FM.”

He enjoys the opportunity to interact with listeners.

“Radio journalism has taught me to be prepared to learn. I am thankful for the support I have received since venturing into the broadcasting industry.

“I am who I am because of my listeners, and I will never forget to appreciate their continuous support. My achievements are through their constructive criticism and, with their support, I believe I will go far.”

He ascribes his success and achievements to hard work and striving for the best in a career that demands discipline and determination.

“Radio and television today have changed a lot. We need to realise that media content needs to get aligned with what is happening in the real world. It’s also high time that, when the media industry considers hiring people, they hire people who are ready to make the necessary changes in the industry.”

Pastor Mike loves radio so much that he truly enjoys going to work, putting fresh energy into every day.

“I love my job and I don’t see myself leaving radio for anything in my life,” he said.

He encourages young people to make education their first priority and to really work.

“Education is of utmost importance to get where you want to be.”
