Two men linked to Seshego taxi violence incident in court

The duo were arrested at Nyl Plaza following a taxi-violence incident where a taxi driver was shot and passengers severely assaulted, this past weekend.

LIMPOPO – Two suspects in a taxi-violence related incident appeared in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 April and were remanded in custody for further investigation.

The men were arrested during a joint tactical police operation following the shooting of taxi driver in Seshego policing area this past weekend. In an earlier statement, Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe explained that the driver had stopped next to a high school in the Moletjie area when he was accosted by the suspects. “The driver was shot and assaulted and passengers in the taxi were seriously injured during the incident,” Ngoepe said.

The police were notified about the incident and reacted. “The suspects were spotted travelling along the N1 road in the direction of Gauteng and the police, together with the assistance of the Saps Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP) and the Provincial Tracking Team, the culprits were cornered and stopped at the Nyl Plaza.”

Both suspects were arrested.

“During the arrest, it was discovered that the chassis number of the vehicle was tampered with and also established that the vehicle was utilised to commit a number of violent crimes in the Matlala, Seshego, Mankweng and Polokwane policing precincts, respectively.”

The accused, aged 32 and 47, are expected back in court on 28 April for bail application.
