Eloise: Damaging winds and heavy rain can still be expected

Severe weather conditions are still expected in parts of the province as tropical depression Eloise moves across South Africa.

Tropical depression is currently situated along the Limpopo and Botswana border, and is still expected to bring heavy and/or persistent rainfall in south-western parts of Limpopo, northern KwaZulu Natal and eastern Mpumalanga.

The service, early this morning, issued a yellow (Level 3) warning for disruptive rain over the western bushveld of Limpopo and the north-eastern parts of the North-West, This can lead to localised flooding of roads, low-lying bridges and roads, dirt roads and poor driving conditions.

Areas affected include Lephalale and Thabazimbi.

Meanwhile, a red (Level 10) warning was issued for the south-eastern parts of Limpopo, eastern highveld, escarpment and lowveld of Mpumalanga as well as the northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal. Affected residents are advised to stay indoors and off the roads. Areas of Limpopo affected include Burgersfort, Fetakgomo Tubatse, Groblersdal, Steelpoort, Marble Hall and Hoedspruit.

According the latest weather advisory issued by the service Limpopo can expect cloudy and cool to warm weather with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread over the western bushveld as well as the south-eastern escarpment.

Gauteng will experience cloudy, windy and cool conditions with scattered showers and thundershowers.

Mpumalanga, cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread showers in the east. “It will be warm in the Lowveld and windy in places on the Highveld”.

The North-West will be hot, partly cloudy and windy with isolated thunder showers.

Freestate can expect cold weather in the extreme east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the east and north where it will be cloudy, windy and cool.

In KwaZulu-Natal morning fog is expected over the interior. “Otherwise cloudy with scattered showers and rain in the south but widespread in the north. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly but westerly to south-westerly in the north.”
