Bags of nyaope and dagga confiscated during clean-up operation

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba, has applauded the police for their endeavour to fight crime throughout the province.

POLOKWANE – Eight men, between the ages of 22 and 44 have been arrested during ongoing clean-up operations conducted in the Polokwane, Seshego and Mokopane policing areas.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, said the arrests were made by members of the Saps’ Limpopo Highway Patrol Team.

In Polokwane, a 22-year-old man, in possession of a black bag was searched and 44 sachets of dagga were found and confiscated.

In a separate incident, three men were arrested in Seshego following incidents of taxi violence in Polokwane and Seshego.

In Mokopane, a 24-year-old man was searched and later arrested after 80 sachets of rock drugs and 58 sachets of nyaope, as well as cash were found.

In another incident, Ngoepe says a “suspicious-looking 26-year-old man” was spotted carrying a black bag.

“The man ran away after noticing the police, who gave chase and he was arrested next to a clinic in extension 19. He was found in possession of 578 sachets of nyaope and cash,” Ngoepe added.

While patrolling the Dennilton area, police noticed a bakkie, belonging to a courier company, carrying a 5 000 litre Jojo tank.

“The vehicle was stopped and searched, but the driver and his passenger failed to provide satisfying reasons and documents regarding the origin of the tank and as to why they were traveling during curfew hours. The men, aged 25 and 28, were apprehended for possession of suspected stolen property and the Contravention of the Disaster Management Act,” he added.

The suspects will appear before various magistrate’s courts soon and police investigations continue, Ngoepe concluded.
