Man nabbed for undeclared money to the value of R165K near Beitbridge border post

The money was found stashed inside a portable cooler bag.

LIMPOPO – A 57-year-old man was arrested after he was caught with a stash of undeclared money, said the police in a statement on Wednesday.

The man was arrested during a routine police patrol along the N1 north between Betbridge border post and Musina on Tuesday morning.

Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Mamphaswa Seabi said it is reported that the suspect, was a walking along the road carrying a portable cooler bag, when he was spotted by the officers and stopped and searched. “During the search the police found a large amount of money stacked inside the bag and when the man could not explain the origin of the money, he was arrested.

Seabi added that preliminary investigations at the scene revealed that the suspect was in the country illegally and that the money, to the value of R165 060 had not been declared at the border post.

The suspects is expected to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of Contravention of Customs and Excise Act.

Police investigations still continue.
