UPDATE: Power restored to most affected areas following cable fault

A cable fault left 14 mini substations in the city without power for most parts of today.

POLOKWANE – Power supply has been restored to most of the affected areas, except along Magazyn Street.

This following, a cable fault which left 14 mini substations without power earlier today.

Thipa Selala, Spokesperson for the Polokwane Municpality says the line supply power to Magazyn Street is still down and technicians are still working on locating a cable fault in order for repairs to take place.

Selala added that the maintenance team have managed to repair only one cable and there are still two faulty cables that must be located and repaired before normal supply is restored. He urged users to use electricity sparingly during this downtime. “This cable might not be able to carry all the load if electricity is not used sparingly.”

POLOKWANE – Technicians are is attending to a cable fault that has left several areas in the city without power for most part of Wednesday, 6 January.

According to Municipal Spokesperson, Thipa Selala the said fault left 14 mini substation without power supply. Affected areas include Cycad, Platinum Park, Welgelegen and parts of areas along Biccard, Magazyn, Dorp, Rissik, Hans van Rensburg, Market, Excelsior, Schoeman streets and surrounding areas.

Selala added that as yet there is no estimated restoration time and that power will be restored once the fault is rectified. “The municipality will provide regular updates on any new developments concerning repairs and power supply restoration to the affected areas.”

All affected users are in the meantime urged to treat all electrical wiring as live and to switch off all appliances to avoid injury and damage once supply is restored.
