Seven dead in three separate fatal crashes in Limpopo ahead of Christmas Day

Transport and Community Safety MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has passed messages of condolences to the families of the people who died.

LIMPOPO – Seven people were killed and 20 others injured in three separate road crashes in the province ahead of Christmas.

According to a statement issued by Mike Maringa, Media Liaison Officer for the Department of Transport, four people were killed in a ‘sideswipe’ collision at Tjibeng in Sekhukhune on Christmas Eve. The incident involved two sedans. “One other person was critically injured. Reckless and negligent driving has been cited as the possible cause of the incident.”

In Vhembe, one person died and eight were seriously injured when the minibus taxi they were travelling in overturned on the N1 in Waterpoort. “Four others escaped with minor injuries,” he added.

Meanwhile in Waterberg, two people lost their lives after a minibus taxi overturned on along the N1 near Modimolle. “Two people were declared dead on the scene while fifteen others escaped with minor injuries. A burst tyre was the leading cause of the incident.

Transport and Community Safety MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has passed messages of condolences to the families of people who died in the accidents. She further called on public transport operators to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on a trip and to adhere to the prescribed speed limits.
