Seshego woman jailed for 23 years for orchestrating murder of her mother

The 27-year-old woman together with two co-accused were convicted of the murder of Seshego resident, 53-year-old Nancy Mabina.  

POLOKWANE – A 27-year-old woman who plotted the murder of her mother was sentenced to 23 years imprisonment by the High Court in Polokwane on Monday, 7 December. Violet Mabina was found guilty of orchestrating the murder of her mother Nancy Mabina (53) with the help of two co-accused Brian Ndlovu (24) and Wilmington Shumbayaonda (27).

Ndlovu and Shumbayaonda were both sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each for their role in the murder, said Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo in a statement on Tuesday evening.

The deceased was murdered in her home at Zone 01, Seshego on 15 April 2020 at about 02:00 in the morning. The courts found that Mabina (the daughter of the deceased) had hired the two men to kill her mother over ‘family conflict. She had offered them R100 000  and on the day of the crime had opened the door of the house and led them to where her mother was sleeping before she went back to her own room. “The duo then attacked the deceased, stabbed her several times with a knife, robbed her of cellphone and fled the scene in an attempt to make the incident look like a burglary.” The deceased’s elderly mother her was also in the house called for help and the police where notified. The woman was certified dead on the scene.

A manhunt for the suspects was launched and they were arrested on the same day. “The daughter of the deceased was arrested a short time later.” A case was assigned to Detective WO Koena Malebane, attached to the Provincial Investigative Unit, who ensured that the trio remained in custody throughout the trial.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba lauded the excellent detective work by the Provincial Investigative Unit and further applauded the community members for continuously providing the police with positive and valuable information which greatly assisted in speeding up the murder investigations.
