10-hour water supply shutdown scheduled for this week

The Polokwane Municipality says this is necessary for the municipal water team to conduct repairs.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality’s Spokesperson, Thipa Selala, says temporary relief measures in the form of water tankers will be provided when their water team embarks on repairs this week.

Selala said repairs on a 550mm pipe at the corner of Hans van Rensburg and Devenish streets is necessary and will take approximately 10 hours.

“Residents and businesses within the Polokwane Municipality’s city cluster are hereby notified of a planned water supply shutdown on Tuesday, 8 December between 08:00 and 18:00. The supply shutdown will affect water supply to areas along Devenish, Westenburg, Nirvana and extensions 40 and 44 with high expectation of low pressure from the line,” his statement reads.

Selala said road users, in particular motorists, are urged to avoid the intersection at Hans van Rensburg and Devenish streets as excavation work will be done in the middle of the road.

“They should use alternative routes and the municipality will provide regular updates on the day, through our communication platforms and through traditional media channels in terms of the progress on this issue,” he explained.

Selala urged areas that will receive supply, to use water sparingly.

“All water and sanitation related challenges, including water shortages, leaks and burst pipes, can be reported to the Water and Sanitation Call Centre at 015 023 5376 / 5629,” he concluded.
