Former PEMPS learner scores Baroka FC spot

Leonardo Afonso signed a contract with DStv Premiership outfit, Baroka FC.

POLOKWANE – Leonardo Afonso penned a one year and seven month contract with Baroka FC recently and will hope to show Bakgakga’s supporters what he has to offer. 

The 23-year-old attended Pietersburg English Medium Primary School (PEMPS) between 2005 and 2010. He wowed Baroka’s technical team during a two week trial at the club’s training grounds in Lebowakgomo and they decided to offer him a contract. 

The club’s Marketing Manager, Richard Mashabanae, described Afonso as a talented player with exceptional abilities. “The technical team was impressed with his football talent. His signature formed part of our efforts of giving local talented soccer players an opportunity to play football at a top level. He will add value to the team and bring more competition in the starting eleven.”

The talented young star previously played for Mamelodi Sundowns’s development team, Polokwane Academy and Peace United Academy.

His Manager, Pine Nkhwashu, believes the left winger will excel at the club. “He has the speed and good ball control to do well. He is a hard worker and we are happy for him and I believe he well do very well at the club.”
