‘Covid-19 will be out on a shopping spree this Black Friday’

LEDET has warned residents to shop responsibly, wear their masks, sanitise regularly and keep social distance at all times if they opt to join the masses this Black Friday weekend.

LIMPOPO – The Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism is aware of the annual Black Friday sales which attract an uncontrolled number of people to gather at their nearest shopping facilities in order to take advantage of various products on sale. The Department hereby reminds consumers that the nation remains under attack by the Coronavirus. Shopping should therefore be done responsibly or online. Although we appreciate the massive sale on Black Friday, consumers should be warned that Covid-19 will also be out on a shopping spree. Every shelf will have COVID-19 on sale.

In the below video WHO expert, Dr Maria Van Kerkhove explains how the SARS-CoV-2 virus infects the body and how our body’s immune system reacts.

The Department further advises consumers to:

  1. Check store policies, especially return policies
  2. Have a list of items you need before going online or to shopping facilities
  3. Focus on your list and avoid shopping, as a recreational activity
  4. Avoid buying on credit or using your credit card
  5. Draw-up a budget and stick to the budget
  6. Compare prices and make sure you get the best deal It is important for consumers to keep in mind that Black Friday is an annual event, if you can’t afford it this year, the same products will still be on sale next year.

In our effort to rebuild the economy, we encourage consumers to support locally produced products as well as local businesses on Black Friday and beyond. All applicable COVID-19 measures will still apply on Black Friday, remember to wear your mask, sanitize regularly and keep social distance at all times. Preferably, stay at home.
