Police efforts to fight the scourge of crime in Limpopo, yield positive results

Special police operations which were conducted in the Waterberg and Vhembe districts this week saw the arrest of several hardened criminals for crimes ranging from armed robbery, murder and theft.

LIMPOPO –  Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba has commended the police for their relentless efforts to win the fight against criminal activities in the province. This after a total of six men were arrested for crimes ranging from armed robbery, murder and theft, during separate special operations which were conducted in the Vhembe and Waterberg districts.

The operations were conducted by members from the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP), Crime Intelligence Unit, the Tactical Response Team (TRT) and the Vehicle Investigation Unit (VCIU).

In the Vhembe district, the police arrested four men, aged between 24 and 38, during a special operation that was conducted in the Thohayndou area from Monday, 23 November until Tuesday, 24 November.

“The men were arrested in connection with trio crimes that were committed in and around the Thohoyandou and Malamulele policing areas. Among the four arrested suspects, two of them, aged 30 and 38, were positively linked to 29 cases of armed robberies, murder, and burglary businesses,” said Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe in a statement on Wednesday, 25 November.

Various signal jammers were among the items recovered during these arrests.

Meanwhile, in the Waterberg district, the Vehicle Investigation Unit nabbed two suspects for theft of motor vehicle during separate operations within the Modimolle policing area. One suspect was arrested and a truck which was stolen from the Hammanskraa area recovered. The second suspect was arrested after he was found in the possession of a Toyota sedan, which was found to be reported stolen in the Johannesburg Central Policing area.

Still under the Waterberg District, members of the Lephalale Lephalale Crime Intelligence Uniti together with the Lephalale Public Order Police (POP), arrested a 42-year-old man for dealing and possession of drugs. “The man was arrested at Onverwacht outside Lephalale and Tuesday, 24 November after he was found in possession of three bags of CAT and 77 bags of crystal meth.

An undisclosed amount of money, two scales and several pipes were also confiscated..

The suspects will appear before the various magistrate courts, soon, Ngoepe concluded.
