[UPDATE] 5 dead in 3-vehicle collision on N1 South near the Modimolle off-ramp

LIMPOPO – Five people died and one person was injured after three vehicles collided on the N1 south near Modimolle on Sunday, 22 November.

Transport Department’s Media Liaison Officer, Mike Maringa says the incident involved a SUV, a sedan and a truck.

“It is alleged the one vehicle had a tyre burst, lost control and collided with an oncoming vehicle, before hitting a truck. The sedan caught fire and the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle and overturned.”

Maringa added that the truck driver sustained minor injuries while the driver of the SUV and sedan were killed instantly. Three others also lost their lives in the incident.

LIMPOPO – “Five people have been confirmed dead thus far in an incident involving a truck and a bakkie on the N1 South near the Modimolle off-ramp,” Maringa said.

He explained that the truck caught fire and emergency personnel are at the scene.

“There is a possible of a road closure and motorists are advised to drive with caution or to opt for alternative routes,” he concluded.
