LIMPOPO – You are now the mirror through which a rural girl looks at herself, heard recently crowned Miss South Africa 2020, Shudufhadzo Musida.

These words were directed to Musida by Arts and Culture MEC, Thandi Moraka, as delegates kicked off Musida’s homecoming celebrations.

Musida participated in a three-day return programme which started in Polokwane last Thursday. She visited Vhavenda King, Toni Mphephu Ramabulana and various special schools around Vhembe on Friday, followed by a visit to her home at Vhangani Ha-Sinthumule on Saturday.

Musida said she worked hard to achieve her goals. “It is a huge responsibility to be a role model to so many girls around the country, especially in rural areas. I achieved this through God’s grace, hard work and determination. It was never easy, but I knew it had to be done. I believe that once you empower a young girl, you empower many nations.”

Moraka pledged her department and the provincial government’s support for Musida.

“To all the girls; it is possible and it can be done. Musida, you were born a star and have worked very hard, please continue being a good ambassador.”

The Musida family’s representative, Nnditsheni Musida, said they are proud of raising a girl of Shudufhadzo’s calibre.

“She is fearless and ambitious, hardworking, determined and destined for success against all odds,” he said.

Chief Livhuwani Matsila said her hard work had already inspired many young people from the rural villages. “Musida’s victory is a thrilling experience for us. We are very proud that a Venda girl, one of our own products of the village, has what it takes to be Miss South Africa,” he added.

Ramabulana called on his people to support Musida’s future endeavours. “She is our daughter. She has made us better people as a nation, please support her endeavours.”

Musida expressed her gratitude for the support she receives. “I am grateful for your support, the crown has come home. I am thankful for all your social media support but I am here today to thank you in person.”
