The man was on the same dance team with the 21-year-old woman he raped.

POLOKWANE – Phahlamohlake Kutso Mothibi (26) has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of a 21-year-old woman in 2017.

Mothibi raped the woman, who was on the same dance team as him, on 29 January 2017, according to a statement by Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“They were practising their dance moves at an old building in Malatane village, near Byldrift, when the accused requested the victim to go and buy him drinks. The accused followed her outside and threatened to kill her, dragged her to the nearby bushes and raped her.

He thereafter left her there and disappeared,” Ngoepe explained. The woman told her friends of the rape and reported the matter to the police, who assigned Det Serg Phakiso Sandra Gololo of the Saps Lebowakgomo Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit to the case.

She ensured that Mothibi was linked to the rape and he was arrested and ultimately, sentenced. The sentencing has been welcomed by the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba.
