Bodies of two boys found in Blood River following drowning in small dam

The Saps Search and Rescue Team and EMS managed to retrieve the bodies from the dam with the support from the local community.

POLOKWANE – A case of inquest has been opened by police in Seshego following the drowning of two boys, aged five and seven.

The boys’ bodies were found in Blood River, outside Seshego on Friday afternoon.

According to a statement by Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the deceased were allegedly playing next to a small dam when they decided to swim without any supervision and drowned.

The families then notified the police after they could not find the boys.

“The Saps Search and Rescue Team and the EMS were also notified and managed to retrieve the bodies from the dam with the support from the local community. An inquest case was opened for further investigation,” he added.

Ngoepe said the circumstances around the incident is the subject of the ongoing police investigations.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba appealed to members of the community, especially parents and guardians, to double their efforts on child safety in and around rivers and dams as we are in the rainy season, to prevent this type of incidents to occur.
