Man (27) arrested for raping niece (6) in the Westenburg area

POLOKWANE – Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said the man appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court yesterday. He was remanded in custody until 19 November for further police investigations and bail application.

POLOKWANE – A 27-year-old man will appear on a charge of rape in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 6 November.

“The police in Westenburg, outside Polokwane, yesterday, 4 November, arrested the man for allegedly raping his 6-year-old niece at their home in the area on 21 September,” said Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

Ngoepe added that the victim’s mother allegedly noticed something strange with her daughter, who seemed to be in pain.

“She then questioned her but the child told her that she was having some complications in her body. The mother became worried and took her to the doctor for medical examination,” he explained.

The examinations revealed that the girl was raped, and she disclosed that she was raped by her uncle who stays with them. “The devastated mother went to the police station to open a case. Police began with their initial investigations which led to the arrest of the suspect,” he added.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba, is saddened by the continuous acts of violence perpetrated against women and children across the province. “Those who continue to engage on these heinous and irresponsible acts, will be dealt with harshly and without compromise,” remarked Ledwaba.

Police investigations are still continuing, Ngoepe confirmed.
