The man had earlier accused the 82-year-old man of stealing his phone.

LIMPOPO – Edzisani Gilbert Ndou (46) appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court today, for the murder of 82-year-old Mudumela George Radzivhoni.

Ndou was found guilty of the brutal murder of Radzivhoni at Muswodi Dipeni village on 21 January 2018 at around 05:00. “The accused went to the deceased’s home and accused him of stealing his cellphone the previous day during a drinking spree,” said Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, in a statement.

An argument ensued between the two and Ndou picked up an axe and hacked Radzivhoni to death before he fled the scene. “A case of murder was opened and intensive investigations and a manhunt ensued until Ndou was arrested. He was incarcerated until the finalisation of the case,” he explained.

Ngoepe said the case was assigned to Det WO Naledzani Gumbu and he managed to link the accused with the murder.

“We hope that the deceased’s family will find closure on this matter, knowing that the person responsible for this heinous crime will be behind bars for a long time. Any person who perpetrates this type of crimes across the province, will never be left unpunished,” said Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba.

Ndou was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine.
