Stolen vehicles confiscated along N1 North and in Westenburg

The police managed to recover 10 motor vehicles with an estimated value of over R2 mil, in two separate incidents.

POLOKWANE – A 34-year-old man has been arrested in the Westenburg policing area outside Polokwane, for the possession of a suspected stolen vehicle. The hatchback was reportedly stolen in Pretoria Central last month and recovered with assistance from a tracking company.

The man is one of two people who were recently arrested by the Polokwane Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU). “Nine motor vehicles were recovered by the police in all the districts, some of them were found abandoned,” Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.

Another stolen vehicle, a white sedan, was also recovered after the driver of the vehicle was pulled over as he was travelling on the N1 North heading to Polokwane. “The motor vehicle was pulled off the road, searched and tested. Preliminary police investigations indicate that the car was reported stolen in White River, Mpumalanga, last week Monday.”

Meanwhile, the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team arrested a 26-year-old man on Monday, for selling illicit cigarettes.

“He was arrested after the police received information from members of the community about a local supermarket that was selling illicit cigarettes and quickly rushed to the place. Upon arrival, the premises was searched and eight cartons of Illicit cigarettes were seized,” Ngoepe added.

The suspects will appear before various magistrate’s courts throughout the province soon, Ngoepe concluded.
