LIMPOPO – The police in Ritavi have arrested a young woman from Khujwana village after she reportedly stabbed her 28-year-old boyfriend to death.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the police received reports about a gender-based violence incident at around 20:00 on Sunday, 1 November. On the scene they found the man lying in a pool of blood. He was later declared dead by paramedics.

“It is alleged that earlier the day, the deceased had gone to visit the accused (girlfriend) in Khujwana village. During the visit an argument had ensued between the couple whereby the deceased had allegedly started to assault her. Subsequently, she then took a sharp object and reportedly stabbed him.”

The accused was arrested and charged with his murder. She will appear in the local court soon.

Ngoepe says the exact motive behind this incident is not clear at this stage, but domestic violence has not be ruled out.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba has condemned the latest gender-based violence incident and encouraged residents to consult with local professionals in cases of social related problems, rather than resorting to violence. Investigations into this matter still continue.
