LIMPOPO – A 36-year-old parolee, sought for cases of attempted murder, robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, has finally been arrested, says the police.

The man was released on parole during September and is believed to be responsible for a series of violent crimes in and around the Masemola policing area outside Lebowakgomo.

According to Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the man is alleged to have shot and injured two people on 12 September. “The incident happened at around 22:00, in the local tavern at Maroge village after an argument with one of the victims. He thereafter disappeared.”

Ngoepe added that after the incident was reported to the police, members of Masemola Police Station, the Saps Limpopo Highway Patrol Team joined by the Department of Correctional Services, launched a massive manhunt for the suspect. He was recently arrested at his home in Mahlakole section and during the arrest the police recovered a pistol and magazine with 16 rounds of ammunition.

The suspect will appear before the local court on Monday, 2 November. He may still be linked to other cases including rapes, Ngoepe concluded.
