[VIDEO] Polokwane Muni receives additional water truck, more to come

Polokwane Mayor, Thembi Nkadimeng says council have put aside an additional R40 mil to buy 23 more trucks.

POLOKWANE – Anglo American Platinum has added to the Polokwane Municipality’s water truck fleet, with the donation of an additional water tanker.

Polokwane Mayor, Thembi Nkadimeng, says in the video that besides the donation from Anglo, council have put aside an additional R40 million to buy 23 more trucks.

She says the money is the excess from the Covid-19 relief funding they received from Treasury. The municipality believes the donation will help in areas that experience water shortages.

“We as council took a decision that we would rather buy equipment for the municipality and our workers, so that they are able to provide services to our people,” Nkadimeng said.

Council chief-whip, Mamedupi Teffo was thankful for the donation. “We need these trucks and as the mayor indicated, we will take good care of this particular truck,” Teffo added.

Meanwhile, Municipal Spokesperson, Thipa Selala urged residents, who are receiving water supply, to use it sparingly as reservoir levels are “not showing improvement”.

He said the municipality will in the meantime continue to provide temporary relief measures in the form of water tankers to areas which experience shortages.

He advised these tips:

  • Do not leave the water running while shaving, brushing teeth or washing hands.
  • Close taps properly to avoid dripping.
  • Do not flush the toilet unnecessarily.
  • Check for leaks in pipes.
  • Do not use your toilet as an ashtray or wastebasket.
  • Use a broom to clean driveways, sidewalks and steps.
  • Advise children not to play with the hose and sprinklers.

“Areas experiencing shortages are advised to report their challenges to the Municipal Water and Sanitation Call Centre at 015 023 5376 / 5629 / 1487 so that the municipality can come to their aid,” Selala concluded.

The municipality advises residents to liaise with ward councillors to coordinate water delivery through tankers.
