Limpopo boy drowns while saving friend

A hero in the eyes of the community where he lived, Rembuluwani Mudau will always be remembered as the one who lost his life trying to save his friends.

LIMPOPO – The teenage boy from Bunzhe village near Tshikhundini drowned on Thursday, 10 September after he tried to rescue his friend who was drowning.

It was about 14:00 when the Gr 10 learner from Azwifarwi Secondary School outside Thohoyandou died in the Mutshundudi River along Dzingahe village near Ngudza.

Rembuluwani Mudau (17) was swimming with three of his friends, Gudani Tshivhengwa, Tshifhiwa Ravhambelani and Rotenda Malabi in the river when the incident happened.

Family spokeswoman, Ndivhudzannyi Nancy Mudau said the family was still saddened by his untimely death.

“His death is still unreal to us. He was so happy that day and decided to go swimming with his friends. We had so many plans for his future, because he was hard working and serious about his education,” said Mudau.

She said Rembuluwani can be described as a “hero”, because he died while saving his friend who almost drowned. Limpopo Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed the incident and said police in Thohoyandou opened an inquest docket.

Rembuluwani was buried last Thursday in the Mbaleni cemetery and is survived by his mother, Nyamutshagole, sisters Zwanga, Lutendo and Denga.
