Four killed in Polokwane taxi accident

The head-on collision happened on Nelson Mandela Drive on Tuesday evening.

POLOKWANE –  Four people died and two others were critically injured after a head-on collision between two taxis on Nelson Mandela Drive.

In a statement, Communications Officer for ER24, Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived on the scene at around 19:00 to find one of the taxi on it’s side and several people lying on the ground.
“Medics assessed the patients and found that three had sustained numerous fatal injuries. They were declared dead on the scene.”

He added that three other men were injured, one man sustained serious injuries and was treated on the scene. “Two other men were found to be in a critical condition and were provided with advanced life support interventions.”

Russel said that all the patients were transported to a nearby hospital, where one of the men later succumbed to his injuries.

“Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.”

The exact cause of the incident will be determined through police investigation.
