#BeSunshine and enter the Spar Women’s Virtual Challenge

The virtual challenge, with the theme #BeSunshine, takes place on 26 September and Spar donates a food parcel to a survivor of gender-based violence for every entry received.

POLOKWANE – Get your tekkies on, choose your route and enter the Spar Women’s Virtual Challenge.

The virtual challenge takes place on 26 September and was created as this year’s Spar Women’s Challenge series had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Spar is calling on women to participate and share their experience on social media, using the hashtags #BeSunshine and #SPARVirtualChallenge. For every entry, Spar will donate a food parcel to a survivor of gender-based violence (GBV).”

Ouma Tema is the founder and creative director of Plus-Fab, a range of stylish clothing for plus-sized women. She is one of the ambassadors of the challenge and also immensely proud of being a woman.

“Women give life. We are life. Women’s Month is a time to celebrate women. Be the change you want to see and remember that the person you are waiting for is yourself,” Tema said.

Tema added that gender-based violence is a scourge in society and that we must do everything we can to create awareness. “The Spar Women’s Virtual Challenge is one way of doing something about it and of having a great day at the same time. We can all enjoy sharing an experience, even if it has to be on social media.”

Another ambassador is actress, writer and producer Donnalee Roberts. Roberts says it is wonderful that there is a month in which to celebrate women, but thinks we should celebrate women every day.

“I have wonderful women in my life who have helped me all the way. I love the idea of bringing sunshine into someone’s life when so many people are suffering sadness and hardship.”

The theme for the challenge is #BeSunshine and you choose your own route at any location. The entry fee is R50 (courier costs may apply depending on your location) and you can run anytime between 06:00 and 18:00 (subject to government lockdown regulations).

The challenge is open to all aged 18 and over and online entries close on 4 September.
