Mokopane judges sentences doctor, paralegal for corruption

The two were arrested after they bribed a Home Affairs investigator.

LIMPOPO – The Mokopane Regional Court on Tuesday handed down a hefty sentence to Dr Anthony Okey Nwafor (55) and Farried Mall (66).

According to a statement by The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke, the two committed corruption five years ago.

“In November 2015, Nwafor, a Pretoria-based medical doctor connived with Mall to bribe a Home Affairs investigator who was entrusted with the investigation of Nwafor’s legal status in the country. The matter was reported to the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation Team. Nwafor and Mall were arrested after handing over a R50 000 payment to a Home Affairs investigator,” Maluleke said.

Maluleke added that the two accused were granted bail during their trial. 

“Both were convicted and sentenced to R70 000 or 1 400 days’ imprisonment each. Nwafor’s legal status in the country is still being investigated,” Maluleke concluded.
