Olympic Towers building closed after Covid-19 case

An employee in one of the departments that share the building, has tested positive for the virus.

POLOKWANE – An official of the Department of Social Development has tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday, 21 July, according to Departmental Spokesperson, Witness Tiva.

Tiva said in a statement that as a result, the Olympic Towers building in Polokwane has been closed with immediate effect. Social Development shares this building with the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

“The building will be closed for an unspecified period to allow for the decontamination of the offices and until the building is declared safe for employees to return back work. Members of the public seeking services from the two departments are in the meantime urged to utilise their respective district offices,” Tiva added.

The MEC for Social Development, Nkakareng Rakgoale, said those in contact with the infected employee have been advised to self isolate and follow all protocol as prescribed by the Department of Health.

“We appeal to all employees to remain calm. We continue to urge our employees and the public to continue to take the necessary precautionary measures to curb the spread of the virus,” said Rakgoale.
