[WATCH] Mankweng fire: Public asked to disperse

Firefighters are still at the scene, where two shops were damaged in the fire.

POLOKWANE – The fire which started at the Mankweng shopping complex earlier this morning has been brought under control.

According to Thipa Selela, Spokesperson for the Polokwane Municipality two shops have been affected and residents are advised to remain at a distance as there are gas cannisters inside one of the shops.

“Preliminary reports indicate that the cause of the fire could be gas-related, however, a fully detailed report will be made available once the investigation into the source has been undertaken,” Selela said.

 

The fire at one of the shops has already been doused and firefighters are hard at work putting out the remaining blaze.


POLOKWANE – Emergency services and police are at the scene of a fire in Mankweng.

Reports indicate that the fire started at a storage site behind a retail store in the Mankweng shopping complex.

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire or when it started is not yet clear.
