The two women were arrested on Saturday, soon after police accessed video clips that went viral on social media, showing the mother encouraging her son to consume alcohol and smoke dagga. Earlier police reports revealed that the friend was also responsible for the act. The incident happened in Nzhelele outside Louis Trichardt.

The child has since been handed over to the grandmother for care.

Limpopo MEC for Social Development, Nkakareng Rakgoale says the social workers will conduct an assessment to look into the circumstances of the family as the safety of child now remains top priority.
