‘No compliance at Seshego High’

The Public Servants Association (PSA) maintains that Seshego High School is not adhering to Covid-19 protocol and regulations and the lives of employees and learners are at risk.

POLOKWANE – The Public Servants Association (PSA) is of the view that learners and teachers are already infected, as they can be asymptomatic. After receiving complaints from a concerned parent regarding non-compliance, the Department of Education’s Spokesperson told a local radio station on Monday, that they were not aware of any problems at the school. The Spokesperson further stated that they have standard operating procedures and weekly reporting by the school, which showed that protocol was being observed.

PSA Spokesperson, John Teffo, however told BONUS that the weekly reports by the department stating there were no reports of non-compliance is not only a lie, but demonstrates that the department does not value the lives of teachers and learners.Teffo says the association visited the school two weeks ago after receiving complaints from concerned teachers regarding a shortage of water and basic sanitation facilities.T

he PSA then wrote a letter to the department and informed the Acting Head of Department regarding the complaints received. They were told the matter would be dealt with, including failure to scan learner’s temperatures. On 15 June, the PSA issued a media statement reiterating the same recurring problems and that nothing had been done.”It is sad that water and sanitation problems have not been attended to, learners are still not scanned and even access school without masks.”No social distancing is kept and learners are even sharing textbooks while the department reported that all is well, according to them.”

It is either the spokesperson does not know what is happening in her own department or she chose to deliberately lie to the nation and we call upon the MEC to ensure accountability in her department,” Teffo said.Spokesperson for Education, Tidimalo Chuene told BONUS on Monday that further investigations will be done to determine other problems at the school.
