Cyclists who joined the Critical Mass cyclist movement hit the streets on Friday evening.

This group of cyclists try to engage all cyclists, and especially families, for mass fun rides in and around the city and in the process, make motorists aware of cyclists in traffic and to consider them too, being part of the city’s road users. Anyone can join in the fun: it is not a competitive ride and children are welcome.

The group regularly gather and also go on outings to the Polokwane Game Reserve. A large percentage of Critical Mass members also belong to other cycling clubs or groups. All cyclists are welcome to join the group – be on the lookout for an announcement in your favourite newspaper for the date of the next fun ride. The cycling event is typically held on the last Friday of every month in over 300 cities across the world, being a global event aiming to create awareness for cyclists on the road and for non-motorised transport.

The cyclists sometimes pick a charity and donate needed items to the organisation, which are then delivered during the ride. This may for instance be a soft toy that is delivered to the children’s ward at a hospital or at a children’s home.
