Cops nabbed after robbery of fellow officer, wife

The trio will appear in court today.

LIMPOPO – The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Maj Genl Jan Scheepers has praised the police for arresting two fellow officers following a robbery incident outside Louis Trichardt.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo says the two police officers, a warrant officer stationed at Mutale police station outside Thohoyandou and a sergeant stationed at Waterval police station outside Louis Trichardt, and their accomplice were arrested yesterday morning on charges of armed robbery after they reportedly robbed a fellow policeman and his wife earlier this week.

Police reports indicate that the victims, a warrant officer attached to the Local Criminal Record Center of the SAPS in Kempton Park, Gauteng and his wife, were travelling along the Tshandama – Khubvi public road when they were accosted by occupants in a Ford Focus and ordered to stop. A firearm was also pointed at the couple and when they attempted to flee they were blocked by a second vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee.

During the incident the WO and his wife were held a gunpoint and robbed of an amount of cash and a tablet. After the trio left the couple alerted the local police who immediately commenced with investigations which led to the arrests.

The trio, aged between 29 and 56, will appear in the Mutale Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday 11 June) on charges of armed robbery.

Scheepers has condemned the criminal behavior of these police officers and says decisive action will be taken against any member who engages in criminal activities.

Police investigations still continue.
