1 killed, several injured as Limpopo police foil farm attack

Members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT), Crime Intelligence Unit and the South African National Defence Force arrested two suspects and fatally wounded another, while a fourth is still at large.

LIMPOPO – Two suspects, aged 33 and 39, have been arrested while another suspect was fatally founded at Lusaka village in the Marble Hall and Dennilton policing areas.

Members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT), Crime Intelligence Unit and the South African National Defence Force managed to foil their planned armed robbery and farm attack last night according to Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo.

“The police received information about a group of suspects travelling in a white Mazda bakkie, who planned to commit armed robberies in the Denilton and Marblehall policing areas. A team was assembled and followed up,” the statement said.

“According to information at our disposal, the suspects planned to commit armed robberies in those areas and this included a farm attack in the Marblehall area,” Mojapelo told Review.

Mojapelo said a vehicle which matched the description was spotted at the village and members ordered the driver to stop.

“The suspects started shooting at the members who returned fire and in the process, fatally wounded one suspect while another two were injured and taken to hospital. The fourth one managed to evade arrest,” Mojapelo added.

A firearm, police bulletproof vest, police reflector jacket and a police cap as well as their vehicle was seized.

Acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Jan Scheepers thanked the members for foiling these planned robberies and apprehending the suspects.

The suspects will appear before the Moutse Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and attempted murder.
