Thohoyandou prosecutor accused of corruption granted bail, plans to plead guilty

The accused in the matter stands accused of soliciting an amount of R6 000 from a person in order to make a case docket disappear.

LIMPOPO – The 48-year-old prosecutor from Thohoyandou who stands accused of corruption and defeating the end of justice, was granted bail of R5 OOO by the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday.

Magistrate David Shikwambane who is from Tzaneen, was called to preside over the matter as a neutral officer. He postponed the matter until 13 July for further police investigation.

In granting bail, Shikwambane told the accused not to interfere with witnesses and warned that he would forfeit the bail amount should he not comply with the order. In a sworn affidavit, the accused stated that he was no longer working for the department and that he had resigned as prosecutor two days after his arrest. He also stated that he planned on pleading guilty.

The 48-year-old prosecutor who was given bail last week.

His legal representative, Goddard Mugwena said he was satisfied that his client had been granted bail. Limpopo Hawks Spokesperson, Matimba Maluleke said the arrest was effected after tip-off.
