Polokwane traffic centres operational on 1 June
The traffic centres will operate with limited staff and no one will be allowed to access any of the centres without wearing a mask.
POLOKWANE – Polokwane’s municipal licensing centres will operate from Monday, 1 June.
Thipa Selala, Spokesperson for Polokwane Municipality says transactions affected by the lockdown will be given preference.
These include the following services that expired prior or during the lockdown period:
- Registration of motor vehicle and licenses.
- Renewal of driving licenses.
- Postponed learners licences booked prior the lockdown period.
- Roadworthiness tests that are pending completion prior lockdown period.
- Dealerships bulk transactions pending completion prior lockdown period.
- Collection of driving licenses cards already delivered before lockdown.
Selala adds that new transactions will be gradually phased in within the given grace period of 90 days.
“This is as per the ministerial directive that all driving licences, temporary driver licences, learner licences, vehicle licence discs, and temporary professional driver permits (PrDP) that expired between 26 March 2020 and 31 May 2020, are deemed valid. The validity period has now been extended for 90 days from 1 June 2020. This serves as surety that motorists will not be penalised for operating a vehicle with an expired licence disc or driver licence as indicated.”
He says motorists who fall within this grace period category are advised not to panic by flocking to
licensing stations, as they do have the grace period available for renewal.
To ensure that social distancing is maintained as a safety precautionary measure against Covid-19, the municpality has put the following measures in place:
- Access and the number of clients shall be strictly controlled and monitored at the gate and main entrances in line with the Covid-19 compliance regulations that include no mask no entry, temperature checks, social distancing and other related measures.
- Local motor dealerships are allocated a dedicated counter to assist with reducing the backlog created by the lockdown.This is also to ensure that social distancing can be maintained as a safety precautionary measure against Covid-19.
Selala says the public should take note that services shall be rendered between 07:00 and 17:00 daily excluding weekends and public holidays.
“The traffic centres will be operating with limited staff and no one will be allowed to access any of Polokwane Municipality’s licensing service centres without a face mask. Social distancing must also be maintained at all times,” he concluded.
