The accused was said to have solicited a bribe of thousands of Rand from a person who was earlier charged with reckless and negligent driving, to make the case dockets disappear.

The prosecutor was subsequently arrested during a sting operation.

According to a statement released by the regional Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, the accused was denied bail and will remain in custody until 26 May for bail application.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Adv Ivy Thanga, condemned the alleged behaviour of the man, saying “contaminates the proper administration of justice”.

“The NPA will act without fear, favour or prejudice regardless of anyone’s status that contravened the law,” the statement concludes.

The Hawks make an appeal to anyone who paid money to the accused in order to evade prosecution, to come forward.
