Cops arrest 7 in sting operation in Limpopo

The men, aged between 24 and 64, are linked to several burglaries in the area.

LIMPOPO – A joint operation comprising members of the Crime Intelligence Unit, Cluster Task Team and detectives from Mankweng, arrested seven suspects last night, on 26 April.

According to a statement released by Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, the police received information about the suspects and conducted a sting operation around the Sebayeng policing area which led to the initial arrest of two suspects.

“They were found in possession of items suspected to have been stolen from one of the schools in the area. The team gathered more information on the other possible suspects involved in these burglaries. Five more suspects were arrested and found in possession of other suspected stolen property,” the statement reads.

The suspects, aged between 24 and 64, are linked to several burglaries in the area.

Among the recovered stolen property were two computer screens, a drill, a grinder, a computer speaker, two refrigerators, two double beds and a plasma screen TV.

SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba commended this team of members for their swift action and the community for assisting the police with information which resulted in the arrests.

Mojapelo added that the seven will appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 28 April on charges of business burglary and possession of presumed stolen property.

Police investigations are still continuing.
